Monday 28th of July: No one shall say the Alaskan’s don’t get up in the morning

We had a good nights sleep, at least until the humming of outboard engines started about 0300. Alaskans certainly get up early in the morning.

Peaceful camp in the morning sun, but things weren’t quite as idyllic as the seemed on this small island

No alarms went off and there were no tracks in the intra tidal zone in the morning.

We planned for a slow start after a long yesterday. And we planned to go back up to check on the carcass. From the kayaks. Then a small boat with one person on board came from across the fjord and steered right to the beach where the carcass was, taking some caution on the last fifty metres in. He (?) was there for about twenty minutes, then left the same way. We’ll never know what he was up to. When we paddled up the carcass was still there. Was it some sort of bait? Why no ravens? In any case it certainly was depressing and we had miles to paddle. We left without further investigation.

We will investigate when we get to Juneau

Another great day for kayakers

Otherwise it was a glorious day to paddle, no dry suits and a couple of dips during lunch break.

After lunch the currents turned against us and it took a bit of effort. Our planned camp sites were partly not as good as they looked on googles and partly “occupied” by leisure boats. So we ended up with a 36 km paddle, instead of the planned 25 or so.

We eventually found an OK site, no morning sun, but no problem: tomorrow will be a wet day anyway.

Aa bonus the first whale of the day appeared just before we went ashore. Otherwise this would have been the first day without a sighting.

Wilderness is ending.

Tomorrow we must cross Chatham strait, which is a busy shipping lane and find a campsite near Auke Bay, without trespassing onto private property. New type of challenge..

Solid endorsement from me, the writing earns it, and a look at momentumbeforeforce continues to earn it across the broader site too, the kind of operation that maintains quality across many pages rather than just one viral post is a sign of serious commitment and that is what I see here clearly across what I read.

Probably the kind of site that should be more widely read than it appears to be, and a look at visualvoyage reinforced that quiet wish, the gap between a sites quality and its apparent reach is sometimes large and that gap exists for this site in a way that makes me want to mention it more.

Reading this gave me a small mental break from the heavier reading I had been doing, and a stop at actiondrivenoutcomes extended that lighter feel, content that provides relief without becoming trivial is harder to produce than people realise and this site has clearly figured out how to be light without being shallow at all.

Worth recognising that this site does not chase the daily news cycle, and a stop at builddirectionnow confirmed the longer publication arc, sites that resist the pressure to comment on every passing event are sites with genuine editorial discipline and this one has clearly chosen depth over volume which I respect deeply.

Just enjoyed the experience without needing to think about why, and a look at forwardmovementengine kept that effortless feeling going, sometimes the best content is invisible in the sense that you forget you are reading until you reach the end and realise time has passed without you noticing it pass naturally.

Use this authentic vin check to confirm a VIN is authentic and not cloned or altered.

Use this check title status to reveal salvage rebuilt or flood brands from the VIN.

Reading this gave me the rare experience of fully agreeing with all the conclusions, and a stop at progressoriented continued that agreement pattern, content that aligns with my existing views without seeming designed to do so is just content that happens to be reasonable and this site reads as reasonable rather than ideological mostly.
